Marine's Facebook page tests military rules
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Marine Sgt. Gary Stein first started a Facebook page called Armed Forces Tea Party Patriots to encourage service members to exercise their free speech rights. Then he declared that he wouldn't follow orders from the commander in chief, President Barack Obama.
While Stein softened his statement to say he wouldn't follow "unlawful orders," military observers say he may have gone too far.
The Marine Corps is now looking into whether he violated the military's rules prohibiting political statements by those in uniform and broke its guidelines on what troops can and cannot say on social media. Stein said his views are constitutionally protected.
While troops have always expressed their views in private, Stein's case highlights the potential for their opinions to go global as tech-savvy service members post personal details, videos and pictures that can hurt the military's image at home and abroad.
"I think that it's been pretty well established for a long time that freedom of speech is one area in which people do surrender some of their basic rights in entering the armed forces," said former Navy officer David Glazier, a professor at Loyola Law School in Los Angeles.
"Good order and discipline require the military maintain respect for the chain of command," Glazier said. "That includes prohibiting speech critical of the senior officers in that chain of command — up to and including the commander in chief."
According to Pentagon directives, military personnel in uniform can't sponsor a political club; participate in any TV or radio program or group discussion that advocates for or against a political party, candidate or cause; or speak at any event promoting a political movement.
Commissioned officers also may not use contemptuous words against senior officials, including the defense secretary or the president.
In January, an Army reservist wearing camouflaged fatigues got into trouble for taking the stage during a rally in Iowa with Republican presidential candidate and Texas congressman Ron Paul.
Stein was first cautioned by his superiors at Camp Pendleton, north of San Diego, in 2010 after he launched his Facebook page, criticizing Obama's health care overhaul. Stein volunteered to take down the page while he reviewed the rules at the request of his superiors.
He said he determined he was not in violation and relaunched the page under the shortened account name Armed Forces Tea Party. Last week, he said his superiors told him he couldn't use social media sites on government computers after he posted the message stating he would not follow unlawful orders of the president.
Stein said his statement was part of an online debate about NATO allowing U.S. troops to be tried for the Quran burnings in Afghanistan.
In that context, he said, he was stating that he would not follow orders from the president if those orders included detaining U.S. citizens, disarming them or doing anything else that he believes would violate their constitutional rights.
Another Marine alerted his command about the statement, Stein said.
Stein said he respects the office of the president, but he does not agree with Obama's policies. He said he is within his rights to speak up.
"Just because I'm a Marine doesn't mean I don't have free speech or can't say my personal opinion about the president or other public official just like anybody else," Stein said. "The Constitution trumps everything else."
Stein said it's positive when service members are well-versed on the Constitution and what's going on in government.
"When we know what we're fighting for, we fight harder," he said.
The Marine Corps said Stein is allowed to express his personal opinions as long as they do not give the impression he is speaking in his official capacity as a Marine. Spokesman Maj. Michael Armistead said the Corps is taking a closer look to ensure Stein has not crossed that line.
"At this time, he has not been asked to take down the statement on his page," he said.
Stein appears in a dress shirt and tie on his Facebook page but he also describes himself as "a conservative blogger, speaker, the founder of the Armed Forces Tea Party and active-duty, eight-year Marine Corps veteran."
Marine Sgt. Jerret Wright, who liked Stein's page, said Stein "probably skirted the line a little bit" with his latest message about not following Obama's orders, but his boldness in expressing his views has been refreshing in a community that often feels silenced.
"People assume that we're zombies with an on-and-off switch, and that we listen to orders and do nothing else," Wright said.
Military observers say it's not that simple. They say it is bad form to lash out at the commander in chief. Experts also say his Facebook postings appear to link his professional standing with his political views.
They also point out that the Pentagon policy is necessary in preventing political and religious debates that could divide a unit and disrupt the strong working relationship that is needed to carry out missions, Glazier said.
"There are plenty of examples in the world of militaries heavily involved in influencing political events that have shown that is not conducive to civilian rule of law," he said.

Lou Buren of TWAU BLOG: They want to make sure he isn't speaking in his official capacity as a Marine? that statement makes no sense what so ever. He is speaking his mind, and yes he is a marine! Enough said. The constitution makes it ok for every person to speak their mind. Marine or not! police officer or not! It does not matter what you do, or if your affiliated with government or not. We have freedom of speech! It's no secret that most of America hates Obama.
I mean sure, he still has the support of the non-white Americans. He'll have their vote no matter what, simply because he isn't white. but most of thinking America is going to vote him out on his BUTT this year. I predict a landslide loss for Obama this November.

GOP race hits 'Super Tuesday'
The race for the Republican presidential nomination is about to take a big step forward, with 10 states weighing in Tuesday on the biggest day of voting yet in the two-month-old campaign.
With several key contests set for so-called "Super Tuesday" -- from the swing state of Ohio to the delegate-rich Georgia -- the four remaining candidates have pursued varying strategies for capitalizing on the day's voting and gaining momentum.
Mitt Romney remains the front-runner and could use a dominant showing Tuesday to all but eliminate doubt about his inevitability. But Rick Santorum continues to present a strong challenge, and polls have remained close in Ohio, a Midwestern industrial state where voters have an uncanny history of picking winners in presidential politics.
Newt Gingrich, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, is banking the future of his candidacy on winning in his home state of Georgia, where he holds the lead in polls. And Ron Paul continues his strategy of looking for delegates in caucus states, which are more easily dominated by highly motivated supporters of the small-government, low-tax candidate.
Primaries in Ohio, Georgia, Massachusetts, Vermont, Virginia, Oklahoma and Tennessee, and caucuses in Idaho, North Dakota and Alaska make Tuesday the busiest day of the primary season.
Romney, a former Massachusetts governor and venture capitalist, already has a big lead in the number of delegates accumulated in primaries and caucuses held so far, and he is trying to project confidence.
"I hope that I get the support of people here in Ohio tomorrow, and in other states across the country. I believe if I do, I'll get the nomination," he said.
Santorum, a former Pennsylvania senator, is going all out in Ohio in an effort to regain the momentum that slipped away in his loss to Romney in Michigan last week. He had held a sizable lead in Ohio but Romney has closed that gap.
President Obama, meanwhile, is seeing his poll numbers rise in tandem with signs that the struggling U.S. economy may be on a course toward sustained recovery. A new NBC-Wall Street Journal poll released Monday shows him defeating all of the Republican candidates in hypothetical head-to-head matchups.
He also has been helped considerably by the Republicans having been driven badly off their economic message by a detour into a rancorous and nasty debate over whether religious-affiliated institutions -- not churches -- should be required to offer health insurance coverage for contraceptives.

I'm not sure why the media always wants to help Obama, and cover for him. The Obama regime has made this economy the worst it's ever been, possibly beyond repair. The idea that the economy is getting better is a flat out lie! Obama and his cronies are covering up facts, and distorting truth. We can't be in the hole for 15 trillion dollars and see any sign of economic recovery. That's just stupid to buy that.
Obama is bad for our nation, bottom line. While we prefer any of the GOP candidates over Obama, I hope Gingrich takes the lead again today on SUPER TUESDAY.

They’re baack! Occupy plotting to flood Wall Street. Tent cities, barricades, calls to resist National Guard, police
The Occupy Wall Street movement is calling for protesters to flood lower Manhattan in September, where they are to set up tents and barricades while resisting any police or National Guard attempt to dispel the crowd, KleinOnline has learned.
“If we hang in there, 20,000-strong, week after week against every police and National Guard effort to expel us from Wall Street, it would be impossible for (President) Obama to ignore us,” reads a call to arms posted on the website of Adbusters Magazine, which has been behind Occupy since the movement’s inception.
“Our government would be forced to choose publicly between the will of the people and the lucre of the corporations,” added the announcement.
After largely breaking for the winter, Occupy is calling for the encampment to begin Sept. 17.
“On September 17, we want to see 20,000 people flood into lower Manhattan, set up tents, kitchens, peaceful barricades and occupy Wall Street for a few months,” reads the Adbusters announcement.
“Once there, we shall incessantly repeat one simple demand in a plurality of voices…We demand that Barack Obama ordain a Presidential Commission tasked with ending the influence money has over our representatives in Washington.”
Occupy to target Democratic convention
In January, KleinOnline reported that a coalition of U.S. radical groups, including the Occupy Movement, are preparing protests to start in September, including the targeting of the Democratic National Convention that takes place that month in Charlotte, N.C.
The Occupy movement is likely to escalate months before the Sept. 3-6 event. A slew of extremist organizations, some tied to Obama, are preparing protests to coincide with major NATO and G-8 summits slated for Chicago in May.
Foreshadowing possible violent confrontations, some of the same radical trainers behind the infamous 1999 Seattle riots against the World Trade Organization have been mobilizing new protest efforts geared toward world summits.
The plans for the Democratic convention are posted on a central website, ProtestDNC.org. More than three dozen organizations, including labor, anti-war and so-called civil rights and immigrants rights groups are joining together to initiate a coalition.
The group calls for:
Good jobs for all! Economic justice now – Make the banks and corporations pay for their crisis!
Money for education, health care, housing and all human needs, not for war and incarceration!
Justice for immigrants and all oppressed peoples! Stop the raids and deportations!
The protest coalition is complaining that the city of Charlotte has already denied their requests for permits to march. The city told the coalition that the DNC itself has reserved major parks in Charlotte during the convention.

Lou Buren of TWAU BLOG: I like the way they say they will be setting up peaceful barricades. And that they will be resisting police and the national guard. Anybody else but me see that those things are not peaceful?
The things they are demanding are easily obtainable by getting a good education and making the right choices in life. Things they have apparently chose to not do. We have many articles on the occupy crowd in our archives, feel free to search for them.
It's time for the city/state leaders to dismantle this group of criminals for good. They are becoming quite annoying. And just so it's clear, the occupy idiots are not affiliated with the GOP. And they are not a peaceful group like the Tea Party. The occupy group is made up of young thug like punks and people who have failed in life. And now they want to complain about things.
Oh here is a photo of one of those peaceful protesters now...
Huckabee: GOP starting to unite behind Romney
By EMILY SCHULTHEIS | 3/5/12 11:46 AM EST
Mike Huckabee, speaking on Fox News this morning, says Romney's momentum in Ohio shows the growing sense of GOP consolidation behind him:
"The momentum is with Romney. Rick Santorum has a very solid level of support there, so it could go either way.
But if the trend continues over the weekend that we've started to see with Romney, sort of, bringing people together as people are saying "Okay, look, if he's going to win, let's go ahead and get behind him."
That's what I think is starting to happen.

GLAAD upset After 'Growing Pains' Star Kirk Cameron Calls Homosexuality 'Unnatural'
Former Growing Pains star Kirk Cameron is taking heat from GLAAD after remarks made on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight.
During Friday's interview, Cameron called homosexuality "unnatural" and "destructive."
"I think that it's unnatural. I think that it's detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization," the actor, who played Mike Seaver on the 1980s TV series, said on the program.
Cameron, who is an evangelical Christian, also spoke out against gay marriage.
"Marriage is almost as old as dirt, and it was defined in the garden between Adam and Eve. One man, one woman for life till death do you part. So I would never attempt to try to redefine marriage. And I don't think anyone else should either," Cameron said. "So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don't."
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation issued a statement in response to the actor's recent appearance on the CNN program.

Lou Buren of TWAU BLOG: Good for Kirk, I admire the courage to speak out against what's wrong, even though he knows he'll be criticized by the pro-sin GLAAD and other groups. The Bible clearly teaches that homosexuality is a sin, and one that will prevent one from entering Heaven.
Instead of advocating sin just because it's gotten popular, try praying for those who are lost in it. And talking to them about repenting. Good job Kirk! Your a true hero and a great warrior for God.
If you have any questions about homosexuality or need help getting out of it, just know we are praying for you and that you can contact us any time.

Rush Limbaugh under fire for 'slut' comment
I'm not sure why anyone would be upset with Rush for his comments. He was right on the money. The girl who who complaining about having to pay for birth control is not only an apparent slut, but ignorant in the knowledge of what's right and wrong. If you can't afford birth control here's an idea, do the right thing and don't have sex until your married.
You don't keep being a slut and expecting the tax payers to pay for your fornication. We have to back Rush on this one. He was right on the money and the girl was displaying a huge amount of ignorance and stupidity.
SHERIFF JOE: 'PROBABLE CAUSE' OBAMA CERTIFICATE A FRAUD
NOTE: In case you missed the news conference of Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s “Cold Case Posse,” WND plans to have the entire event available within 24 hours of the news conference.
PHOENIX – An investigative “Cold Case Posse” launched six months ago by “America’s toughest sheriff” – Joe Arpaio of Arizona’s Maricopa County – has concluded there is probable cause that the document released by the White House last year as President Obama’s birth certificate is a computer-generated forgery.
The investigative team has asked Arpaio, who is at a news conference in Phoenix live-streamed by WND TV that began at 3 p.m. Eastern time, to elevate the investigation to a criminal probe that will make available the resources of his Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
The posse says it has identified at least one person of interest in the alleged forgery of Obama’s birth certificate.
Arapaio, known for his strict enforcement of immigration laws, commissioned the investigative team after local citizens presented him with a petition expressing concern that Obama might not be eligible for Arizona’s presidential ballot.
In addition to the live-streaming, WND is making available to the public a report distributed to media today by Arpaio’s investigators.
The posse, comprised of former law enforcement officers and lawyers with law enforcement experience, has interviewed dozens of witnesses and examined hundreds of documents. It also has taken numerous sworn statements from witnesses around the world.
Mike Zullo, Arpaio’s lead investigator, said his team believes the Hawaii Department of Health has engaged in a systematic effort to hide from public inspection any original 1961 birth records it may have in its possession.
“Officers of the Hawaii Department of Health and various elected Hawaiian public officials may have intentionally obscured 1961 birth records and procedures to avoid having to release to public inspection and to the examination of court-authorized forensic examiners any original Obama 1961 birth records the Hawaii Department of Health may or may not have,” Zullo said.
The investigators say the evidence contained in the computer-generated PDF file released by the White House as well as important deficiencies in the Hawaii process of certifying the long-form birth certificate establish probable cause that a forgery has been committed.
The investigation was launched after 250 members of the Surprise, Ariz., Tea Party, presented a signed petition to Arpaio in August 2011 asking him to undertake the investigation.
The Tea Party members petitioned under the premise that if a forged birth certificate was used to place Barack Obama on the 2012 Arizona presidential ballot, their rights as Maricopa County voters could be compromised.
Arpaio believes a congressional investigation might be warranted and has asked that any information relevant to the investigation held by other law enforcement agencies be forwarded to his office.
The Cold Case Posse advised Arpaio that they believe forgers committed two crimes. First, they say it appears the White House fraudulently created a forgery that it characterized as an officially produced governmental birth record. Second, the White House fraudulently presented to the residents of Maricopa County and to the American public at large a forgery represented as “proof positive” of President Obama’s authentic 1961 Hawaii long-form birth certificate.
“A continuing investigation is needed to identify the identity of the person or persons involved in creating the alleged birth certificate forgery and to determine who, if anyone, in the White House or the state of Hawaii may have authorized the forgery,” Arpaio said.
Among the evidence released at the press conference are five videos – which can be seen at the end of this article – to demonstrate why the Obama long-form birth certificate is suspected to be a computer-generated forgery.
The videos consist of step-by-step computer demonstrations using a control document. They display the testing used by the investigators to examine various claims made by supporters of the April 27 document.
The investigators contend the videos illustrate their conclusion that the features and anomalies observed on the Obama long-form birth certificate were inconsistent with features produced when a paper document is scanned, even if the scan is enhanced by Optical Character Recognition, OCR, and optimized.
Additionally, the posse says, the videos demonstrate that the Hawaii Department of Health Registrar’s name stamp and the registrar’s date stamp were computer-generated images imported into an electronic document, as opposed to rubber stamp imprints inked by hand or machine onto a paper document.
“That we were able to cast reasonable suspicions on the authenticity of the registrar stamps was especially disturbing, since these stamp imprints are designed to provide government authentication to the document itself,” Zullo said, emphasizing that if the registrar stamps are forgeries, the document itself is likely a forgery.
The investigators also chronicled a series of allegedly inconsistent and misleading representations that various Hawaii government officials have made over the past five years regarding any original birth records held by the Hawaii Department of Health.
“As I said at the beginning of the investigation, the president can put all this to rest quite easily,” Arpaio said. “All he has to do is demand the Hawaii Department of Health release to the American public and to a panel of certified court-authorized forensic examiners all original 1961 paper, microfilm and computer birth records the Hawaii Department of Health has in its possession.”
Arpaio emphasized that the Hawaii Department of Health needs to provide, as part of the full disclosure, evidence regarding the chain of custody of all Obama birth records, including paper, microfilm and electronic records to eliminate the possibility that a forger or forgers may have tampered with the birth records.
The sheriff said the president should also authorize Honolulu’s Kapi’olani Hospital, the birth hospital listed on the Obama long-form birth certificate, to release any hospital patient records for Stanley Ann Dunham Obama, his mother, and for the newly born Barack Obama, to provide corroboration for the records held in the Hawaii Department of Health vault.
“Absent the authentic Hawaii Department of Health 1961 birth records for Barack Obama, there is no other credible proof supporting the idea or belief that President Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, as he and the White House have consistently asserted,” Zullo said.
“In fact, absent the authentication of Hawaii Department of Health 1961 birth records for Barack Obama, there is no other proof he was born anywhere within the United States.”
In addition, investigators say they have developed credible evidence that President Obama’s Selective Service card was a forgery, based on an examination of the postal date stamp on the document. Also, records of Immigration and Naturalization Service cards filled out by passengers arriving on international flights originating outside the United States in the month of August 1961, examined at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., are missing records for the week of President Obama’s birth.
